Donald Edwin Westlake was born on July 12th, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York. His parents Irish background lent irony to his birthdate, as it happened to be the anniversary of the famous Battle of the Boyne - check out Irish history if you don`t understand this comedic paradox.
Westlake attended three colleges in New York State, as well as spending two and a half years in the United States Air Force. He finally made junior in Harpur College in Binghampton, NY. In June 1996, Westlake was awarded a doctorate in letters by SUNY Binghampton, the university that Harpur had become.
Westlake has one sister, Virginia, and two-ex wives. His wife, Abigail Westlake (also Abby Adams Westlake and Abby Adams) is a writer of non-fiction - her two published works are An Uncommon Scold and the Gardener`s Gribe Book. They have seven children and as Westlake puts it "They have all reached drinking age, so they`re on their own."
Westlake`s books include Don`t Ask, Good Behaviour and Sacred Monster. |
